Our enchanting Salzburg is currently showing its rainy, almost wintry side. While the sky is grey and the streets are lined with rain, the charm of the city remains unbroken.

But let us not be discouraged - the weather gods have sunnier days in store for us.

In just a few weeks, the traditional Rupertikirtag will take place, a highlight in Salzburg's calendar of events. The Rupertikirtag, which opens with the traditional ringing of the cathedral bells at 12 noon on 20 September, is a major event that attracts locals and visitors from all over the world.

It commemorates Saint Rupert of Salzburg, the patron saint of the city.

Until Tuesday 24 September, the Cathedral, the Chapter, the Residence, Mozartplatz and the Old Market are dedicated to Salzburg's tradition and folk culture. The nostalgic rides and insights into old Salzburg crafts give the Rupertikirtag its unique flair.

While we wait for the Rupertikirtag and, hopefully, the return of the sun, there is plenty to do when it rains. Salzburg has a wealth of indoor activities. Visit the Museum of Modern Art or immerse yourself in the world of Mozart's city at Mozart's birthplace. St Peter's Abbey also offers a fascinating insight into the history and culture of the region.

A visit to one of Salzburg's traditional cafés is a great way to warm up over a cup of coffee and a slice of Sachertorte and soak up the atmosphere of the city.

So - Rain or shine, Salzburg offers a rich experience for all the senses.

So don't let a few drops of rain dampen your spirits. Salzburg always has its own magic, and Rupertikirtag is sure to be an unforgettable celebration. Until then, let's enjoy the little pleasures of everyday life in Salzburg and keep an eye out for the first rays of sunshine.
