When you visit the charming city of Salzburg, there is one place you should not miss: the Salzburg Almkanal

....lovingly called “the Alm” by us Salzburgers.

This idyllic watercourse is not only a wonderful walk, but also a perfect place to relax 🌳🚣♀️.

The Salzburg Almkanal is a fascinating piece of Salzburg history. The path leads past sights such as Leopoldskron Castle, a magnificent baroque building from the 18th century. It was originally built as a summer residence for the Salzburg Prince Archbishop Leopold Anton Eleutherius von Firmian and today impresses with its opulent architecture and historical significance. The picturesque location on the banks of the Leopoldskroner Weiher makes the castle an ideal place for romantic walks and unforgettable photo moments. 🏰📸

Enjoy your stay and let yourself be enchanted by the beauty and history of this unique place! 💫

OUR TIP and a special HIGHLIGHT: The annual tour of the underground tunnel (for a total of only 3 weeks in September)

In order to repair the river bank structures, seal the walls and maintain the facilities, the canal system will be drained for three weeks in September - following a long tradition (in 2024 probably from September 7th to September 26th) .

This special opportunity allows visitors to visit the tunnel beneath the old town, which normally remains hidden.

During these three weeks you can experience a fascinating guided tour through the canal tunnel and its history, which will give you a unique insight into the urban infrastructure and the historical use of the canal.

Embark on a historical tour that will take you into the depths of the city’s history.
